At a liquidation auction in rural Nebraska, a seventy-year-old farmer spends his last real cash on thirty-seven bison everybody else has already written off as a salvage burden. The lender thinks the herd will bleed him dry, push him off his land, and clear the way for a bigger development plan. But what starts as a desperate livestock gamble turns into a brutal test of winter management, flood survival, herd recovery, and one overlooked clue the seller never cared enough to investigate.

This story follows Jonah Hale as he fights to keep the herd alive long enough to learn what he actually bought. With feed costs rising, pasture turning dangerous, and pressure building around his eighty acres, Jonah is forced to choose between preserving cash and proving value. Then a broken tag opens the first real trail of evidence, and the animals everyone mocked begin to change the future of his farm.
