Dolly Parton announces a musical based on her life's story will be coming to Broadway this winter.

Parton 's list of upcoming projects grows as her new musical Dolly: A True Original Musical that follows her life's story, will open Monday, December 7 on Broadway with an opening night celebration on Dolly's 81st birthday January 19.

The musical, directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, features Parton's most beloved hits as well as new songs she penned especially for the new musical. The musical will arrive to the stage with a new book by Parton and two-time Emmy Award winner Maria S. Schlatter.

A version of the musical had previously played at Belmont University's Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in a limited run last summer. The musical also collaborated with the University for Dolly U, a program which allowed students to take part in the production working with cast, crew, producers and earning course credit while gaining valuable production experience.

The musical will be playing exclusively on Broadway at the St. James Theatre in New York. Tickets go on sale for fans at 10 a.m. July 8 online, with general sales July 10.
