You know the songs. You know the voices. But do you know who actually wrote them?

Some of the biggest songs in country music history weren't written by the artists who made them famous. They came from legendary songwriters who were sometimes just as talented behind the scenes as they were in front of the microphone.

In this video, we're counting down 10 country stars and legendary songwriters who wrote massive hits recorded by other artists.

From Willie Nelson writing "Crazy" for Patsy Cline to Dolly Parton writing "I Will Always Love You," these are the hidden stories behind some of the most recognizable songs in country music.

We'll uncover the stories behind:

???? Roger Miller – "Billy Bayou"
???? Hank Cochran – "Make the World Go Away"
???? Mel Tillis – "Detroit City"
???? Merle Kilgore & June Carter Cash – "Ring of Fire"
???? Bobby Braddock – "He Stopped Loving Her Today"
???? Harlan Howard – "I Fall to Pieces"
???? Cindy Walker – "You Don't Know Me"
???? Kris Kristofferson – "Help Me Make It Through the Night"
???? Dolly Parton – "I Will Always Love You"
???? Willie Nelson – "Crazy"

Some of these writers became country music legends themselves. Others were best known as the people behind the songs, quietly creating hits that would define another artist's career.

We'll look at the stories behind Patsy Cline, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Sammi Smith, Jim Reeves, Bobby Bare, Eddy Arnold, and other country music legends, while uncovering the songwriting talent hiding behind some of their biggest recordings.

These aren't just famous country songs. They're stories about songwriting, heartbreak, ambition, Nashville, and the artists who turned someone else's words into timeless music.

Which songwriter surprised you the most?

Was it Willie Nelson and "Crazy," Dolly Parton and "I Will Always Love You," or Merle Kilgore and "Ring of Fire"?
