???????? Kris Kristofferson lived one of the most extraordinary lives in American music.

Born June 22, 1936, in Brownsville, Texas, he became a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, served as a U.S. Army captain and helicopter pilot, and was headed toward teaching at West Point. Then he made an incredible decision—he left the military path behind and went to Nashville to chase his dream of becoming a songwriter.

He struggled for years and even worked as a janitor at Columbia Studios before his songs began changing country music.

???? He wrote classics including:
• “Me and Bobby McGee”
• “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down”
• “Help Me Make It Through the Night”
• “For the Good Times”
• “Why Me”

His songs were recorded by stars including Johnny Cash, Janis Joplin and Ray Price. Kristofferson also became a successful actor and later joined Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings in the legendary Highwaymen.

???? In 2004, he entered the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Kris Kristofferson died September 28, 2024, at age 88—but the songs and stories he left behind ensure his place in American music history.

???? Soldier. Scholar. Songwriter. Actor. Outlaw. Legend.
