Working with nearly $8 million less than expected in the Knox County Schools budget that started July 1, administrators had to make quick, tough decisions to stay within their means.

Superintendent Jon Rysewyk announced major changes after the state and local contributions were unexpectedly cut after the school board had already approved its budget:

• Twenty-nine full-time equivalent positions will be cut at middle and high schools. The actual number of people who lose their jobs, including new employees hired in the spring, has not been determined. This is on top of the nearly 100 layoffs made by the district in the spring.

• Reduction in contract days, meaning less pay overall, for elementary school assistant principals

• Mandatory five-day furlough for district office and administrative systemwide employees

1967 war die Karriere von Dolly Parton komplett von ihrem Mentor Porter Wagoner abhängig. Er war für sie eigentlich alles, aber seine totale Kontrolle hat ihre kreative Freiheit irgendwann so erdrückt, dass sie wusste, sie muss gehen. Statt einen Riesen-Streit vom Zaun zu brechen, hat sie einen Song geschrieben – ein Abschiedsgeschenk voller Tiefe. Als Wagoner „I Will Always Love You“ zum ersten Mal hörte, war er so geschockt, dass er vor Rührung losweinen musste, weil er wusste, dass Dolly jetzt für immer weg war. Zwölf Jahre später, 1979, kam aber doch noch der Zoff: Wagoner hat seine ehemalige Schülerin eiskalt auf 3 Millionen Dollar verklagt. Um dem ganzen Hickhack ein für alle Mal ein Ende zu setzen, hat Dolly ihm einfach ihre erste verdiente Million in die Hand gedrückt, nur um diesen Teil ihres Lebens endlich abzuhaken. Als Porter 2007 dann im Sterben lag, war es ausgerechnet Dolly, die den Mut hatte, ihn zu besuchen und bis zu seinem letzten Atemzug an seiner Seite zu bleiben. Es ist echt ein unumstößlicher Fakt: Dolly Parton hat bewiesen, dass wahre Stärke nicht darin liegt, vor Gericht zu gewinnen, sondern darin, die Größe zu besitzen, einen Menschen, der einem damals die erste Chance gegeben hat, nicht im Stich zu lassen, selbst wenn die Vergangenheit voller Schmerz war.
